Local Businesses and Coalition to Protect Overtime to Hold Press Conferences in Jackson and Ft. Gratiot on July 24
PRNewswire
WHAT: Coalition calls on Governor Granholm and state legislators to work
cooperatively to approve House Bill 6213, legislation to protect
Michigan workers' income, flexibility and freedom in workers'
schedules, and help Michigan job providers remain competitive with
          out-of-state companies.

WHO: Local employers and employees and members of the Coalition to
Protect Overtime & Other FLSA Exemptions

  WHEN: Monday, July 24, 2006

WHERE: Larry's RV, 2501 Lansing Ave., Jackson, Michigan at 9:30 a.m.

Moran Automotive, 4511 24th Ave., Ft. Gratiot, Michigan at 2:30
          p.m.

WHY: Failing to pass remedial legislation to protect federal overtime
and other Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) exemptions without
immediate effect prior to the legislative summer recess would
leave Michigan businesses and employees in panic mode, wondering
whether they will need to eliminate jobs, reduce workers' hours or
benefits, or even close their doors because they will no longer be
able to compete with out-of-state competitors come fall. Without
Governor Granholm's signature and legislation in place by October
1, 2006, over 370,000 Michigan jobs will be put at risk, including
high-paying jobs in hospitals, the trucking industry, auto, boat
and RV dealerships, retail sales, IT and many other industries.
