Most recent studies of Michigan's tax climate have been written by government officials for government officials. This study updates traditional public sector measures of Michigan's tax climate, but adds a taxpayer perspective to the debate by: (1) calculating the cost of state and local taxes on a per-hour-worked basis; and (2) calculating the cost of state and local taxes on a per-worker per-year basis. These two new measures will make it easier for employees and employers to understand and participate in the ongoing debate over taxes and spending.

In addition to Dr. Ballard, Michigan Chamber President & CEO Jim Barrett, and Tricia Kinley, Director of Tax Policy & Economic Development for the Chamber, will participate in the press conference.
