The Michigan Chamber of Commerce Federal Political Action Committee announced today its endorsement of Myrah Kirkwood for U.S. Congress in Michigan's 5th District. The 5th Congressional District includes the counties of Genesee, Tuscola, and portions of Saginaw and Bay.
"Myrah Kirkwood is pro-business, pro-jobs and pro-taxpayer. She'll be an outstanding Congresswoman for the people of the 5th District," said Robert LaBrant, Senior Vice President of Political Affairs for the Michigan Chamber of Commerce.
"There is a clear contrast between Myrah Kirkwood and the incumbent Congressman, Dale Kildee," noted LaBrant. "Dale Kildee has the second lowest cumulative voting record amongst the Michigan Congressional Delegation with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Nearly three out of every four votes Dale Kildee has cast in Congress over his career have been against the interests of the business community (26 percent cumulative voting record with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce)."
Myrah Kirkwood is a former Detroit police officer. She was a member of one of the first graduating classes of female cadets in 1977. She spent 16 years on the force and ended her career with the rank of Sergeant. Kirkwood currently serves as a regional security manager with the McDonald's Corporation with responsibility for the Midwest region.
Myrah Kirkwood has been a delegate to the Republican National Convention and a co-chair of President George W. Bush's presidential campaign. Former Governor John Engler appointed Kirkwood to the Michigan Women's Commission and the Michigan Board of Nursing.
The Michigan Chamber of Commerce is a statewide business organization which represents more than 6,300 employers, trade associations and local chambers of commerce. The Michigan Chamber was established in 1959 to be an advocate for Michigan's job providers in the legislative, political and legal process.
