LANSING, Mich. -- The Michigan Chamber of Commerce and Michigan Association of REALTORS® will reveal results of a new poll indicating a major shift in public opinion on a proposed state sales tax on services at a media briefing to be held on Wednesday, May 12 at 2:30 p.m. in the 22nd floor conference room of the Boji Tower, 124 W. Allegan Street, Lansing.
Participating in the media briefing will be: Rich Studley, President & CEO of the Michigan Chamber of Commerce; Bill Martin, CEO of the Michigan Association of REALTORS©; and Neil Newhouse, of Public Opinion Strategies.
Gov. Jennifer Granholm proposed a plan to lower the state sales tax rate from 6 percent to 5.5 percent and expand the tax to most consumer services as a way to plug a projected $1.7 billion deficit in the fiscal year that starts Oct. 1.
