"Senate Majority Leader Dan DeGrow and House Speaker Rick Johnson have put forward a reasonable proposal to accomplish the legislature's constitutionally required duty to balance the state budget," said Michigan Chamber President & CEO Jim Barrett. "After reviewing the list of proposed budget cuts, the Michigan Chamber agrees with the Senate Majority Leader and the Speaker that the plan they announced last week is the best course of action for the state of Michigan."
"Speaker Johnson and Senator DeGrow are to be commended for their determination to stay the course on scheduled tax cuts for individuals and business," added Barrett. "We urge their colleagues in the State House and Michigan Senate to follow their good example."
Last month, the Michigan Chamber Foundation released a comprehensive study of Michigan's tax climate that shows that the state's current tax structure generates a substantial amount of revenue for state government, local government and public schools. The study is available on the Michigan Chamber's website at http://www.michamber.com/ .
