The Michigan Chamber of Commerce elected new officers to its Executive Committee yesterday at the Grand Traverse Resort in Acme. The Michigan Chamber's Executive Committee and Board of Directors set policy and establish priorities for the statewide business organization.

Mary Princing, President, Princing & Ewend Associates, Saginaw, will serve as chair of the Michigan Chamber's Board of Directors for 2001-2002. She replaces Rex E. Schlaybaugh, Jr., Vice Chairman of Oxford Automotive, Inc., Bloomfield Hills, who became the Immediate Past Chair. Morrall M. Claramunt, Executive Vice President & Secretary at Frankenmuth Mutual Insurance Company, Frankenmuth, was re-elected Treasurer.
Re-elected as vice chairs were: Dr. Curtis Tompkins, President, Michigan Technological University, Houghton (District I); J.C. Huizenga, President, Westek, Inc., Grand Rapids (District II), who will serve as First Vice Chair; Kenneth L. Kensington, CEO, Viatec, Inc., Hastings (District IV); John D. Pirich, Partner, Honigman, Miller, Schwartz & Cohn, Lansing (District V); David G. Sowerby, Vice President, Loomis, Sayles & Company, L.P., Bloomfield Hills (District VI); and Gregory C. Smith, President & CEO, New Center Stamping, Inc., Detroit (District VII).
Robert L. Hetzler, President & CEO of Monitor Sugar Company, Bay City, was elected as a new vice chair for District III.
The Michigan Chamber of Commerce is a statewide business organization which represents approximately 7,000 employers, trade associations and local chambers of commerce. The Michigan Chamber was established in 1959 to be an advocate for Michigan's job providers in the legislative, political and legal process.
