The Michigan Chamber of Commerce applauds the Michigan Senate for passing a key recommendation of the Land Use Leadership Council. With strong bi-partisan support, the Michigan Senate today passed (37-0) Senate Bills 805 and 806.

Senate Bill 805, introduced by State Senator Patricia Birkholz (R-Saugatuck), would place $75 million from the Clean Michigan Initiative approved in a statewide vote in 1998 into the local Brownfield grant and loan program. Senate Bill 806, introduced by State Senator Tom George (R-Texas Twp), would establish a revolving Brownfield redevelopment fund. Both bills would encourage urban revitalization.

"We applaud the Michigan Senate for passing this important legislation which was designed to implement a key recommendation of the Land Use Leadership Council that had unanimous support of Council members," said Michigan Chamber President & CEO Jim Barrett, who served on the Land Use Leadership Council.

Senate Bills 805 and 806 will now be sent to the State House for consideration.
