Executives in Michigan wishing to greatly expand their statewide contacts, learn first-hand the issues that affect the state as a whole and take part in unique experiences, now have that opportunity. Leadership Michigan, a program of the Michigan Chamber Foundation, is accepting applications for its 17th class, set to begin April 22, 2004. The application deadline is December 5, 2003.

Leadership Michigan is a leadership development program designed for current and future leaders to encounter first-hand the critical issues facing Michigan. The program, instituted in 1988 by the Michigan Chamber Foundation, offers tremendous personal and professional growth opportunities for participants. It exposes them to the critical issues facing our state by visiting the five major regions of the state and taking part in contemporary leadership exercises, dynamic learning experiences, and diverse networking opportunities with other Michigan leaders.

There are six sessions in 2004 from April through October. The first "Orientation" session is not only an orientation to the program, but an orientation to the rest of the class. At this session the class develops common goals, participates in team building exercises, learns more about how each class members' particular knowledge and skills can be applied to the betterment of the group and prepares to make the most of the following five sessions.

The following five comprehensive, two-day sessions will be held in the main regions of the state: Central, Southwest, Upper Peninsula, Southeast and Northern. Each session includes: networking with alumni and other government, business and community leaders; learning about statewide business and quality of life issues from state leaders; taking part in leadership activities; and visiting business and landmarks unique to Michigan.

By learning more about the people and issues that make up the state and visiting the major regions of our state, participants will discover ways that we can all work together more effectively. Participant's will leave each session with solid ideas to bring back to their organization and will leave the program with improved leadership abilities, an inclusive network of dynamic leaders from across the state and a broader understanding of issues at the state and community levels. In short, participants will be armed with the necessary resources to address important issues and make a greater impact in their organization and community.

Leadership Michigan is a non-profit leadership development program funded by tuition and fees. Tuition covers speaker fees, program materials, meals and lodging and must be paid by April 22, 2004.
