The Michigan Chamber of Commerce today announced its endorsement of one Michigan Supreme Court justice and three Michigan Court of Appeals judges who are seeking re-election on November 7, 2006.
The Michigan Chamber is backing incumbent Justice Maura Corrigan for Michigan Supreme Court.
"Voters who believe in our system of checks and balances must not forget about the importance of voting to return a responsible and experienced justice to the Michigan Supreme Court," said Michigan Chamber President & CEO Jim Barrett. "That candidate is Maura Corrigan."
The Michigan Chamber is endorsing three incumbent judges for the Court of Appeals. They are Kirsten Frank Kelly, 1st District Court; Brian K. Zahra, 1st District Court; and Peter D. O'Connell, 4th District Court.
"Citizens can feel confident that these individuals possess all of the qualities sought in a judge," noted Barrett. "A judge must be fair, honest, independent, hardworking and treat lawyers and their clients with courtesy and respect. We are also impressed with the intellect and high ethical standards of these judges. They understand that the role of a judge is to impartially interpret the law as passed by the Legislature."
The Michigan Chamber of Commerce is a statewide business organization representing approximately 6,900 employers, trade associations and local chambers of commerce. The Michigan Chamber of Commerce was established in 1959 to be an advocate for Michigan's job providers in the legislative, political and legal process.
