The Michigan Chamber of Commerce today issued the following statements regarding Michigan GOP gubernatorial candidate Rick Snyder's choice of Brian Calley as his running mate.
"The Michigan Chamber of Commerce supports Rick Snyder's positive vision for Michigan's future," said Michigan Chamber President & CEO Rich Studley. "It's exciting to see Rick Snyder assemble a strong and capable team as he moves forward to the November general election."
"Brian Calley is an excellent choice for Lt. Governor," added Studley. "We know from working with Representative Calley over the past four years on a wide range of key economic issues that Brian Calley is pro-jobs, pro-taxpayer and pro-business."
"In the 2007-2008 legislative session, Brian Calley supported job providers on 20 out of 21 key roll call votes, including opposing Governor Granholm's push for a sales tax on services," noted Jim Holcomb, Vice President of Business Advocacy & Associate General Counsel for the Michigan Chamber. "During the current legislative session, Rep. Calley has continued to be a strong supporter of job providers by introducing House Bill 4750 to repeal the job-killing 22 percent surcharge on the Michigan Business Tax."
"We are confident that both Rick Snyder and Brian Calley have a strong commitment to reforming Michigan's tax system to encourage job creation and business growth," concluded Studley.
The Michigan Chamber is a statewide business organization representing approximately 6,800 employers, trade associations and local chambers of commerce. The Michigan Chamber was established in 1959 to be an advocate for Michigan's job providers in the legislative, political and legal process.
