The Michigan Chamber of Commerce has endorsed Lansing attorney Michael Brian Cavanaugh for the Ingham County Circuit Court Judgeship being vacated this year due to the retirement of Judge Thomas L. Brown. The primary election will be held on August 3, 2004.

"Citizens can feel confident that Brian Cavanaugh possesses all of the qualities sought in a judge," said Michigan Chamber President & CEO Jim Barrett. "A judge must be fair, honest, independent, hardworking and treat lawyers and their clients with courtesy and respect. We are also impressed with his intellect and high ethical standards. Brian Cavanaugh understands that the role of a judge is to impartially interpret the law as passed by the legislature."

In accepting the endorsement, Cavanaugh said: "I am pleased and honored to have earned this very significant endorsement."

Cavanaugh graduated from Okemos High School, received his B.A. from the University of Michigan, and his law degree from the University of Denver College of Law. Cavanaugh, whose family has lived in Ingham County for six generations, is a partner in the firm of Butzel Long in Lansing. He and his wife, Amy Moore Cavanaugh, have two daughters, Molly and Maeve, and reside in Okemos. Amy Cavanaugh is the General Counsel of the Lansing Board of Water & Light.

The Michigan Chamber of Commerce is a statewide business organization which represents more than 6,300 employers, trade associations and local chambers of commerce.
